How we eat – Food Routes. (Honey)

How we eat – Food Routes. (Honey)

I am a young man who loves to eat, but who does not always eat well. Not only that, sometimes I am not aware of what I’m eating or how to cook well at home. This project is a documentary about food practices of our Latin culture, how we can change our habits to improve ourselves, starting to become aware of how the food reaches our table.

My name is Sebastian Cardenas – I’m a graphic designer, documentary and product photographer further. I live in Bogota, Colombia. Around the middle of my career in design, I became interested in the photography and I would like to use it now to help promote health-oriented cultural changes.

My obsession with food has been present since I was a child, and it is an issue that I have begun to think about more daily. From my photography and video feed, I would like to create cultural changes that promote better nutritional awareness.

Part of my work you can see on https://www.behance.net/sebastianapraez

And recently I started to manage the network instagram: https://www.instagram.com/hungergraphy/

I have had internal and external conflicts over food, how our habits tax our bodies, how much we are unaware of their processes, how to eat and how these foods reach our tables.

With my photographs, I want to share and highlight food routes, from cultivation to the development of a dish at home. I hope with this to bring attention to how complicated and debilitating the path to food is in our everyday lives, what we assume about what we have to eat.

To ensure that this project is carried out, I need financial aid. Normally part of my resources come from photographic records in social events, also from designing and freelance classes that I teach. As I said I am a freelance photographer and am subject to the jobs that arise day by day.

An Introduction:

The first route is called Honey Route. Quipile begins in a village located three hours from Bogota. It is a town rich in fruits, coffee and bee products. There I talked to several producers who market honey as their main source of income. It is from their experience and my passion for food that this whole project is made worthwhile.

Goal:

Create awareness, especially for people living in big cities. Being accustomed to almost any food can be produced at the national level as we distance ourselves from the effort and do not recognize everything that’s in the food we consume daily.

How to Support:

Although very important, economic/financial support in this project is not the only one. Looking at my portfolio and providing critiques to my work would be helpful for my personal and professional growth in photography. Additionally, sharing my campaign with others you think may find an interest would be a significant help toward my end goal of bringing awareness to the nutritional processes of creating and consuming food that actually may not be nutritional at all.

Honestly I love this project.

Thank you very much for your consideration and the time it took to read my thoughts.
