Award winning Scottish landscape photographer needs your help to keep producing work for exhibition.
Hi, my name is Neil Barr and just over 12 months ago I picked up my first DSLR camera. With no prior training or experience, within 4 weeks I had taken shots that won me the Scotland Magazine Photo Challenge 2015 and gained Highly Commended in the first Scottish Landscape Photographer of the Year competition. I’ve since gone on to gain other awards including Commended in the prestigious UK Landscape Photographer of the Year 2015 competition and a 2nd place and 8 Honourable Mentions in the International Photography Awards 2015.
A graduate of Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen (Scotland), I’ve spent the past 20 years running a successful web design business. I eventually sold up (in a deal that went flat) due to ill health and stress. I shortly thereafter took up photography as a hobby, but also as therapy in my battle with anxiety. 20 years of daily stress had taken its toll.
I quickly found out that it is only when out in the landscape taking photographs (often camping out at the top of mountains for days) that I can escape the everyday problems. The freedom and joy I feel when watching the light move across the landscape along with our wonderful unpredictable Scottish weather is something I wish to get across in the finished art works.
I discovered within me a talent I didn’t know existed and a vocation that I dearly want to continue with. I’ll shortly be hosting my first solo exhibition as a landscape photographer at the Veneer Gallery, Glasgow in February 2016, with a follow-up exhibition at Coburg House Gallery in Edinburgh.
I need your help to allow me to keep producing work.
What I Need & What You Get
After nearly 60,000 shots and 30,000 miles travelled in just a year, my funds are severely depleted. I have put everything into making this work as a career and slowly over the past few months there has been a glimmer of hope that it may just work. I hope to replenish some of my funds with my solo exhibitions next year. But in order to keep producing work up to and beyond the exhibitions (which will hopefully kick start my career as a photographer), I need the funds to keep producing work.
Unfortunately, losing my business left me with no other income and all the travel over the past year has been very expensive. The cost of putting on the exhibitions (funded entirely by myself) will run into the thousands.
Every dollar raised will go towards the production of new work and in return, every contributor will get:
For $40 – signed A4 signed print from my portfolio & invite to exhibition preview.
For $70 – signed A3 signed print from my portfolio & invite to exhibition preview.
For $100 – signed A2 signed print from my portfolio & invite to exhibition preview.
For $120 – half days 1-2-1 tuition for one person, within 50 mile radius of Glasgow & invite to exhibition preview.
For $180 – full days 1-2-1 tuition for one person, within 50 mile radius of Glasgow & invite to exhibition preview.
